Since 2010, I have worked as a classroom teacher. For the first three years of my initial teaching career, I was an English teacher at a private institution. From there, I transferred to a government or public school, where I currently work. Now, I have been in the teaching profession for thirteen years in a Teaching II position and planned to be a Master Teacher after graduating in the master’s program.
Teaching has always been my passion since I was a kid, so I widened my horizons and penetrated the online world, where I get to meet kids and adults across the country. I joined an ESL company, taught different learners with different levels of English, and became TESOL and TEYL certified. I have been an ESL teacher for five years now.
I gained a lot of experiences dealing with different learning abilities, styles, and phases. Parts of it are managing classroom environment and maintaining a healthy virtual learning atmosphere. Well, communicating with your students virtually is another challenge. How will you achieve focus and consistency, while building rapport? The key is to love what you are doing. And you will be able to think a million ways how to do it.
With my experiences in teaching and dealing with different learners, both face to face and virtually, I have mastered my skills in active listening, reading with comprehension, speaking impactfully, writing proficiently, and building rapport. And adjust my teaching style based on the learners’ level and needs. As my skills improved, so did my confidence as an English teacher and as a person. I have managed to maintain my zeal despite many circumstances in life. I constantly picture myself mentoring children and watching them grow and be better. It gives me a satisfying feeling knowing that I’ve contributed to their development and success. I live with the noblest vocation there is—teaching. And in many years to come, I would still be called: Teacher Abby.
